Fixture Secretary
Purpose
To take responsibility for organizing league, cup and friendly matches for all of the adult teams at the club and ensuring the fixtures provide the right standard of rugby, reflecting the needs of your club.
Key aspects of the role
- Coordination of fixtures Propose a fixture list for all teams, reflecting the ambitions of the club, confirming the list in writing by June of each season. Coordination of a group of volunteers to manage fixtures, if applicable.
- Ensure information is distributed to relevant parties Ensure that the relevant lists are supplied to the RFU, Referees Societies and other relevant agencies, confirming the fixtures with opponents at least two weeks before the game and that they are provided with kick-off times, directions to the ground and, if applicable, complimentary match tickets.
- Dealing with any unexpected problems that arise Deal with match cancellations and finding new fixtures; handle any fixture queries throughout the season.
Ref Liaison
Purpose
To ensure each team has at least one qualified referee and to grow and develop new referees, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed.
Key aspects of the role
- Lead on referee recruitment and development Identify, recruit and develop referees ensuring sufficient and appropriate refereeing staff are assigned to each team, including illness cover, and establish the needs of club referees signposting them to relevant courses and continuing personal development.
- Act as a point of contact for the RFU, Constituent Bodies and club referees, ensuring that all referees’ details and qualifications are registered and updated on the RFU Game Management System annually.
- Implement a referee development plan Design and lead the implementation of a suitable club referee development plan for all sections of the club, understand and publicise the RFU refereeing courses and local refereeing events and encourage the sharing and spread of best practice between referees at different levels.
