Match report Ks v Bedford Swifts 11/2/23
Venue Bedford International Athletic Stadium
Score: 42-10 to Swifts
Well. We’ve had better afternoons.
Thanks to Swifts for their hospitality, we wish them well for the rest of the season.
So I think this is one we chalk down to a bad day at the office and move on to challenges new. Swifts started as they meant to go on, testing us everywhere and running in tries with monotonous regularity. Never a team to go down without a fight, we put 2 tries past them, one scored by our evergreen stalwart Rich Lovesey in a storming bounce-em-off bulldoze to the tryline, and another by Gaspard, in a rare breakthrough of the Swifts defence.
Notable mentions go to Joel Cain, who in scoring a try-saving tackle near the Ks line managed to tackle with his face, (you should have seen the other guy though) went down bravely and out cold but recovered to walk off to the sanctuary of Mum and Dad, and enjoyed England’s much-needed win at Twickenham on Sunday over Italy.
K’s picked up a rare yellow card, again for Gaspard, for a dump tackle on a Swifts player, which gave him 10 minutes to have a think about things. We also benefitted from assistance from Swifts Veteran Adam May late in the second half, for which we’re massively grateful, but alas Swift’s extraordinary strength in depth through multiple fresh legs in the second half paid off and was reflected in the score line.
MOTM: Tom Darlow, as ever for being everywhere, distributing skilfully and marshalling the pack expertly
DOTD Zak Miller, for putting in an amazing tackle, then getting up and chasing someone, only to fall over and injure himself!
We go again next weekend, with training during the week so we can re-focus our efforts into a team effort of the quality we know we can deliver.
